Ever thought you could balance Minnesota’s budget better than state lawmakers do? Now is your chance to prove it! Minnesota Budget is a comprehensive budget tool that allows you to be the next governor and propose how to balance Minnesota’s projected $5.8 billion budget deficit for the 2012-2013 biennium. Cut spending on programs you feel are overfunded and increase spending on programs you value. You can also choose to increase specific taxes in order to generate new revenue. Only one catch: You must balance the budget without shifts or accounting gimmicks.
Minnesota Budget not only allows you to balance the budget, but also provides valuable information about the different state-funded programs. Read these program descriptions carefully so that your budget decisions are fully informed (information sources can be found here). Because this is a comprehensive budget tool, plan on spending more than five minutes to put together your plan (hey, it can take state legislators months!). When you have balanced the budget, you can submit your plan to be included in a full summary of Minnesotans’ budget choices.
